Antuan D. Hawkins, MLK Event Performer & 2013 Keeper of the Dream
Antuan D. Hawkins is a gifted actor and singer currently based in Kinston, NC. He received a Bachelor of Science in Music with an emphasis in vocal performance from Chowan College. After graduation, Antuan taught middle school and private music classes. Though dedicated to education, Antuan missed the exhilaration of live performances and then began balancing performances around work in corporate America.
In November of 2002 during Luciano Pavarotti’s concert tour, Antuan serenaded Pavarotti at a private dinner in his honor singing a rewrite of Pavarotti’s encore piece, Libiamo from the opera, La Traviata.
Antuan has also shared the stage with celebrity entertainers including Jeff Foxworthy at the Duke University Children Miracle Network Benefit Concert featuring national country music singer, Jo Dee Messina, and national jazz recording artist Branford Marsalis. Most notably, Antuan created the role for Bailey in the world premier of Samm-Art Williams’ Conversations on a Dirt Road.
Antuan has performed in New York City in several off-Broadway productions, co-starred in several independent movie projects, and co-starred in the world premiere of F.I.S.H., the musical. His most recent performances included Ain’t Misbehavin’, featured vocalist in several musical reviews, and headliner for several jazz concerts. He has also produced several productions and musical reviews, including The Golden Oldies Radio Show.
