Jocelien Whitehead, Miss Black NC Talented Teen, MLK Event Performer

JoceLien, also known as, Jocelien Danee Whitehead, is a sensational 13 year old rising star from Greenville, NC. She attends E.B. Aycock Middle School in Greenville, NC. She is a vocalist, dancer, actress and all around amazing entertainer and performer. Since the age of 4 she has been performing and participating in competitive dance competitions, singing anywhere and every chance that presented itself to the young and adorable artist. At such a young age, audiences were immediately captivated by her amazing smile, personality and performance. David Payton, playwriter, “A Good Man Is Hard To Find”, first heard her sing the National Anthem at 9 years old. Payton was so impressed by JoceLien’s performance he offered her roles in several plays touring throughout the Southeastern United States. “They Said I Wouldn’t Make It”, “Stand By Me” and “Behind The Pupit” Payton’s untimely death in 2011 left the 12yo looking for a clear direction.
West Adams published singer and songwriter with Blacklisted Entertainment Publishing, West Adams Music, and CFO/Talent Recruit for Lowe Bar Studios of Nashville TN, watched a You Tube video of the young JoceLien performing. Adams sent a simple email that read, “WOW, I think I can help you”, and that’s just what he did. Adams shared JoceLien’s talent with his life long friend, Big Machine Publishing, Red Bull Records, 5K recording artist, singer, songwriter and producer Nathan Barlowe (Luna Halo, The Honeymoon Thrillers, Five Knives). Barlowe has worked with producers such as Rick Rubin and multiple recording artists such as Taylor Swift and Hot Chelle Rae. Barlowe, most recently sold an amazing 6 million copies world wide of Taylor Swift’s Platinum Release “Fearless” in which Swift recorded, "Untouchable". After 6 months of working and writing exclusively with Lowe Bar, “Summertime Crush” was released to iTunes on August 10th, 2012.
To follow the single release, JoceLien will release a 5 song EP in October 2012. JoceLien is still in the process of recording her new record, “Shooting Star”, due out in early 2013. She was also crowned Miss NC Black Talented Teen on Dec. 16, and thats not all she will be signing with her first major record label at the age of 13 with 5050 Music Group by way of Universal Records . “A lot of exciting things are happening and the support has been unbelievable, I am so grateful and blessed”, says JoceLien about her success.
