The Project Promise Mentoring Alliance is currently serving middle school youth in the Kinston Promise Neighborhood.
The mission of the community-based Project Promise Mentoring Alliance is to inspire and empower youth in grades 6-12 with a passion for learning and success.
The primary goal of the Project Promise Mentoring Alliance is to develop an innovative continuum mentoring approach to helping middle and high school youth become confident and productive, stay in school and set goals for the future. The Project Promise Mentoring Alliance will provide a comprehensive and unique approach to meeting the needs of our youth starting in grade 6 and continuing through high school.
The Project Promise Mentoring Alliance will utilize a variety of best practice strategies including mentoring; tutoring; afterschool and out-of-school time programming; cultural enrichment activities including art; music, and dance; healthy living and physical activity and gardening; service learning and parent/family engagement.
The Project Promise Mentoring Alliance is a collaborative effort of the Kinston Promise Neighborhood – an alliance of Lenoir County agencies who are committed to providing a continuum of education support for youth from birth to college and career. We know that many local citizens and organizations are needed to make our project a success. The Partnership for Children of Lenoir and Greene Counties serves as lead fiscal agency for the Dropout Prevention grant funding received from the NC Committee on Dropout Prevention. Lead agency support for program administration is provided by Young Women of Promise, Inc.
Kinston Promise Neighborhood member agencies who have committed to the 2010-2012 Project Promise Mentoring Alliance include Young Women of Promise; little by little; Lenoir-Greene County Partnership for Children; Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce; Lenoir County Education Foundation; Young Women’s Outreach Center; La Voz, ENC., Inc.; NC FIELD, Compassion Outreach Community Development Corporation; Queen Street United Methodist Church; Greater St. Paul United Holy Church; and the Lenoir County Center for Cooperative Extension.
